I was in the halls of Harvard University, I heard the sounds of debate and went to check it out. I didn't think I could go inside so I stood behind the door as the students discussed President Jackson's action. I remembered that there were only four important things Jackson did during his two terms as president. The first thing was the Spoils System which was a method of appointing officials to the government of the United States of America based on political connections rather than on experience. Second President Jackson removed the need to be a land owner, as a requirement to vote. His supporters were mostly common folks were able to vote for the first time. Next President Jackson drove the Cherokees out of their native home to live on reservations which was dubbed as the Trail of Tears. The last thing that President Jackson did was to stop the Nullification Crisis, The Nullification Crisis of 1832 involved the United States government wanting to enforce the tariff and South Carolina’s authority to nullify these laws. Because of South Carolina's refusal to put these laws into action President Jackson authorized the dispatch of troops to enforce the tariff, but before any action could be taken Henry Clay proposed the Compromise Tariff of 1833 which was signed by Jackson. I wanted to go inside the room so badly, but I was afraid to be questioned about who I was so I decided to take a nap in a nearby room while listening to their discussion.
